184 million Pinoys by 2040

Currently, the Philippines has a population of 92.2 million and the said figures will eventually double in 31 years to place the country in 10th spot.

what do we need to do? stop reproducing – that’s the only logical step to take. but, i doubt if filipinos would take the initiative. they are know to react only on the verge of destruction. take the ondoy tragedy as an example. now, they are aware of the climate change happening. but it’s not enough for them to notice other problems like proper garbage disposal and flood control infrastructure.

ok, that’s thinking big. let’s think by the details.

typhoon ondoy gave opportunity to other people and corporations to show their good side by relief operations. bad part, the goods are placed inside plastic bags. and plastic bags will turn to trash which will add to the existing garbage that we still need to figure out how to dispose.

back to the population growth

here are some questions we need to answer:

  • how do we stop or at least decrease the growth rate?
  • what is the right amount of growth rate
  • what do we do with the idle (unproductive) portion of the population?
  • are there jobs/work/activities waiting for the children when they reach adulthood?

these are just the tip of the iceberg and are focused within the population issue itself. questions with relevance to other issues should also be counted like – “is the land mass of the country enough for the entire population?” or “why is the majority of the population concentrated on manila?”. unfortunately, we don’t get to discuss those often, nor do we here it being discussed.

i’ll tackle some of these questions next.
